Official IT Art Exhibit

IMG_9251.JPG

This has been a whirlwind couple of weeks and I couldn't be more excited about being involved in the Official IT Art Exhibit from Warner Bros, New Line Cinema and Gallery 1988. This show, inspired by the new adaptation of the Stephen King novel brought together an amazing group of artists to create officially licensed takes on the new film. One of my 3 commissioned pieces was also featured to promote the show.

The show ran for a very limited amount of time from 8/31/17- 9/3/17 in Los Angeles and featured free giveaways of select prints. Take a look at all the pieces by visiting Gallery 1988's dedicated page to the show.

Gallery 1988's "Stephen King Tribute" Show

"Crazy Carrie, Crazy Carrie" 16x20 Giclee Print (Limited Edition of 30)

"Crazy Carrie, Crazy Carrie" 16x20 Giclee Print (Limited Edition of 30)

I was beyond excited a couple of months back when Gallery 1988 reached out about being a part of their tribute to horror master Stephen King. I have been reading King's work since I was a child and would often sit in book shops and immerse myself in such novels as Carrie, Pet Semetary and The Shining. Naturally, I dove right in and decided to take on one of my personal favorites, Carrie.

I had actually created a lot of Stephen King inspired artwork prior to this, so the actual process of coming up with subject matter and approach was a lot more difficult than I had expected. I didn't want to repeat myself or lose the emotion of the piece, so I decided to go for a more atmospheric and simple piece that focused on the titular character. I wanted to use a combination of loose shapes in the fire with detail on Carrie herself as she descends into visual darkness consumed by the flames behind her.

If you'd like to pick up a print, there are some still available through the Gallery at the following link: "Crazy Carrie, Crazy Carrie" Giclee Print

Below are some shots of the finished piece in the wild:

Gallery 1988 "30 Years Later" Show

16x20 Giclee Print inspired by A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

16x20 Giclee Print inspired by A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

Hey Everyone! I know it's been a long while since I've kept up with regular blog posts. This is a little late but I wanted to dedicate a post to a recent show I participated in for the awesome folks at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles. I was asked to participate in this show which was a celebration of the year in film of 1987. Naturally, I went straight for the burnt jugular to one of my favorite films ever, A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

I wore out multiple VHS tapes of this film as a kid and it continues to be one of my go-to films on the regular. If "Aliens" & "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" are praised as sequels that raised the stakes and rivaled the original, this is the horror equivalent. With this piece, I wanted to pay tribute to the wonderful array of characters and pay homage to the film by creating a poster that actually showed off the emotion of the actual characters. I find that horror posters typically shy away from this.

Below are some shots of the prints and you can purchase one of the 2 variations over at the Gallery website at the following links.
